Instructions, details & credits

  • Room: Arcade
  • Keyboard, mouse, or touch
  • Survive and chase your score

Place your next piece before the next missile arrives.

Build falling-block defenses under missile fire. Clear rows, earn points, and keep five cities alive as the attack intensifies.

What you do

Move and rotate each falling piece to build a shield above the cities. Missiles destroy blocks they hit, opening gaps in your defenses. Complete a row to clear it and earn points, then rebuild before the next strike.

Controls

  • Choose Start when you are ready. The cities are safe until you begin.
  • Left and Right arrows move the piece. Down speeds its descent.
  • Up or X rotates clockwise; Z rotates counterclockwise.
  • On a touchscreen, tap or drag to aim. Check the ghost landing position, use Rotate if needed, then choose Drop. You can keep one finger on the board while another uses Rotate or Drop.
  • With a mouse, move across the board to aim and click to drop. Right-click or use the mouse wheel to rotate.
  • Space or Drop drops the piece. Pause/Resume or P pauses and resumes. Turning the screen pauses a running game until you choose Resume.
  • Restart or R asks before clearing a live run. Keep run or Escape preserves it paused; Restart game returns to Start. After Game Over, Restart returns directly to Start.
  • Fullscreen expands the play area where the browser supports it.

What the game explores

A wall can protect a city and leave little room for the next piece. Clearing a row earns points but removes part of your shield. You keep choosing between a useful defense now and room to maneuver later.

The run ends when all cities are destroyed or the stack leaves no room for a new piece.

Build story

Mike Besso created Blockade Command with GPT. On September 9, 2026, he confirmed his ownership and requested an independent repository and a move from the original GitHub Pages Gameroom into the RS Game Room Arcade.

The migration preserved the original JavaScript game and its regression tests in legacy/. The active game now adds touch aiming, edge placement, Start and Pause controls, and proportional canvas sizing following Tim's tablet testing. Falling-block, missile, scoring and city rules remain unchanged. This repository owns the game source and this editable Markdown record; RS Game Room assembles its brief and play pages into the Arcade.

Review state

Mike approved the reviewed game and brief and requested deployment to the RS Game Room Arcade on September 9, 2026. Staging deployment is authorized. Production publication and retirement of the original GitHub Pages game remain separate decisions.
