Remember it this waySeveral tasks learn through shared model structure.

In plain language

Multitask learning trains one model on several tasks together so the tasks can share useful representations. It may use shared layers with separate outputs or another shared-parameter design.

Why it matters

Related tasks can strengthen one another, especially when data is limited. Unrelated or competing tasks can interfere, so the task mix and evaluation must be explicit.

Example

A model learns object detection, road segmentation, and distance estimation through a shared visual encoder with a separate output head for each task.

Common misconception

Multitask learning is not the same as a user asking a general-purpose model to do several things. It describes a training setup with shared learning across tasks.
