The Ledger of Remainders

Stage 00 · 40-minute guided world

The Naming

Nothing is waste until a purpose draws the line.

Begin with a used phone and a piece of bread as neutral remainders. Name the purpose, actor, boundary, and time before naming either object.

A scratched, partly opened phone rests on torn ledger paper beside a repair tool, bread, an oxidized copper plate, and mineral fragments.
naming · observed object study

I · Immutable

Observed consequences

  • The phone contains working and damaged parts, stored information, embedded labor, and materials with more than one possible afterlife.
  • The bread retains material and nutritional properties while edibility, timing, redistribution, and disposal remain contextual.
  • Naming changes duties and possibilities, but it does not remove the underlying object or its consequences.

II · Adjustable

Classification and accounting

  1. What service or purpose is being judged?
  2. Who has authority to draw the boundary and name the remainder?
  3. Which affected parties and consequences sit outside the first ledger?

III · Explicit

Value judgment and response

When is a firm designation necessary, and when is unresolved the more honest classification?
